Framed chalkboard

Image
I know this is a very known craft but thought id blog about it just incase there were a few people that didn't know what to do. :). You need: A frame with the glass Chalkboard paint (I used Martha Stewart from Michaels) A mini roller Spray paint for frame if needed I bought a frame from Michaels for 11.99. Take the glass out. Add chalkboard paint into mini roller tray. Roll on first coat of paint onto the glass (I used a mini fan to help it dry quicker, I am so impatient) Meanwhile paint the frame if needed. After about an hour put on another coat of chalkboard paint and repeat about 3 or 4 times. I did 3 coats. You may want to wait 24 hours before you actually write on it but do whatever paint instructions say. I made Kalyssa one too ;)

White Bean Chicken Chili

Image
White Bean Chicken Chili 3 boneless chicken breasts  2 tablespoons oil 2 cans white beans  4 cups chicken broth  salt/pepper 1 1/2 onions chopped  4 garlic cloves, minced  2  4oz cans green chilies  1 1/2 cups water 1 tablespoon cumin Heat oil in a skillet, add chicken and coat with salt and pepper on each side.  While chicken is cooking add beans and broth in a large pan over medium heat, covered.     Remove cooked chicken and blend on low speed to shred, leave in blender for a few minutes while you add onion and garlic to pan you cooked chicken in.   Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.   Add onion mixture, shredded chicken, chilies, water, and cumin to the beans and broth.   Cook over medium heat covered for about 30 minutes, stirring frequently.  Scoop into individual bowls and add cheese, crackers, sour cream or any topping to your desire.

Making a kitchen window valance

Image
As a beginner sewer I can make curtains with no problem, of course I'm not lining so it makes it very simple! I bought this beautiful fabric for 7.99 per yard however I just bought a half. My window is 35" wide so I used the entire width of the fabric to give it a little cinch on the top. Of course if you want more than you would take more steps but here are simple steps to creating a valance: 1st I folded over the rough edges and sewed them on both sides. Next I ironed down the rod pocket which should be apx 2 to 3 inches depending on your rod or more if you want. Then I ironed down the bottom hem about 1 inch,  now you can make a hem to your preference and I think big thick hems are beautiful like 4" or even 6" but being I didn't have a lot of fabric to work with and it's just a small kitchen valance so I made less than a 1" hem, after ironing that down I sewed both the rod pocket and bottom hem and got a beautiful valance in a fabric I like. ...

Shoulder bag

Image
I wanted to make Kalyssa a bag to carry her folder in to school so I decided to give it a shot, reminding you that I'm not super good at sewing but little projects like this give me lots of practice. I always check out the clearance fabric at walmart. They always have cute fabric for 1.00 a yard so I found 3 fabrics to use that compliment eachother... I used 4 pieces cut into about 12"x 17" 2 for liners and 2 for outer, I also cut a small piece to make an outer pocket however I sewed it incorrectly and the pocket ended up being on the inside. :) still serves a purpose lol. Than I cut 4 pieces about 2"x24" for the straps. I have a better idea of how I'm going to do the next one so ill post an updated version at a later day.
